The Getaway Van

How do I get support?

Technically, your Getaway van should be supported by the dealer from whom you bought it. If you own a secondhand (or thirdhand) Getaway, that dealer is still responsible. Any commercial Mercedes dealer is responsible, just like the chassis warranty. The warranty is a full three years or 36,000 miles. Another route is to contact the team that builds the Getaway vans - Driverge. With all that said, Peace Vans probably has more knowledge and expertise than either of those entities and while we can't provide warranty support, we often have the parts and expertise to help you with your Getaway. Always feel free to reach out to us.

History of the Getaway Van

We like to say this story is best told over beers, but it is pretty straightforward. Back in 2018, Peace Vans began building Metris campers. The Metris struggled to find a market, and the Sprinter RV scene exploded. The team at Mercedes thought a camper on the Metris might make sense. In 2019, the leads from Mercedes came through Seattle and began getting serious about the project. Mercedes, as we've been told, was looking at some huge builders and smaller, more innovative ones. In the summer of 2019, Peace Vans was selected to be the "design partner" on the not-yet-named Getaway project, and Mercedes paired us up with a team called Driverge who would take our design and knowledge and manufacture the vans for sale at any commercial dealer nationwide. We were very excited about this, and even though our brand didn't make it on the end project, we were compensated for our efforts and excited to see our hard work come to a more effective channel. The highlight was attending the Chicago Auto Show in February 2020 - one of the last events before COVID. Being on the floor of that show with Mercedes-Benz was something we'll never forget.

What’s happening with the Getaway program?

Even before the Metris was sunsetted, Mercedes realized that selling these vans through the dealer channel was a challenge.  After making a few hundred of the vans, Mercedes stopped offering a Getaway option in 2022 and turned the market for what we call "Weeknders" back to Peace Vans.  While we are sad the program never reached its full potential, we are thrilled so many people were able to get a modern pop-up camper van at a local dealer.

Can I still get a Getaway van?

Nope.  But the good news is you can a get a Weekender from Peace Vans, which is the same van with some small differences: top painted to color match and more options (camping heater, lift kit, etc.).

What upgrades and add-ons can Peace Vans provide for my Getaway van?

All sorts! We tend to think of them in two categories:

Accessories: These are things we can ship to your house. Bug screens, floor mats, a cool "toilet box" that can double as a small cabinet, bike mounts that fit into the rail system, and more.

Upgrades: These are items that require coming into our shop for installation, or you can work with us to find a local partner.  Examples of these would the camping heater, lift kit, upgraded aux battery system, Weekender lighting package, operable windows for slider doors, and more.  Many people make a trip out of coming to visit Peace Vans and schedule in some of this work. We have parts and team members waiting to help.
